How to defeat Maguu Kenki in Tavern Card Challenge

Maguu Kenki and Jadeplume Terrorshroom are the last 2 bosses in TCG version 3.3, and they prove to be quite a handful with their skills and high HP. Since these two are harder than previous enemies, I decide to make a guide about it and how to defeat them with my recommended deck. The Jadeplume Terrorshroom guide can be checked here.

Maguu Kenki Skill Set

First of all, you need to know the enemies first. There are 3 opponents here, and two of them are Kairagi with 6 HP and one Maguu Kenki with 20 HP. The problem with these enemies is that they often switch active characters, making it quite hard for you to trigger elemental reactions. In addition, the Kairagi also has a strong Elemental Burst with only 2 Energy requirements.

Next is Maguu Kenki’s skill. He has 2 Elemental Skills that can inflict different elements on your active character: Anemo and Cryo. Since the Kairagi can inflict Electro, Maguu Kenki can trigger an AoE attack with Superconduct, slowly killing your characters. Oh, and the Elemental Skill also stays as a summons that stays and deals respective elements & damage at the end of rounds. For the full list of Maguu Kenki attacks, you can check this page: All Genius Invokation TCG Card Lists.

Character Card

Mona’s Elemental Skill can deal Hydro damage and summon a Reflection that will also deal another Hydro damage to opponents (This is important but I will explain it more below in the strategy). Her Elemental Burst also can double the next damage on the active character, making Diluc’s damage even stronger.
Diluc can then take advantage of the enemies’ Wet status and trigger Vaporize reactions to kill them swiftly deal huge damage. If you’re lucky and get certain Action Cards and have enough Energy, you can even one-shot Maguu Kenki with his Elemental Burst. I mention ‘lucky’ because well, both Dices and Action Cards you get are random, so you can’t expect it all to go swiftly on the first try.
Bennett is the trump card that can be used whenever Diluc or Mona is down to cast Elemental Burst that can heal the active character/ increase the next damage.
Support Card

Since Maguu and the gang loves to switch back to back before the round ends, you also should use the same strategy with Katheryne and cut their turn with Fast Action. Out of the 30 Action Cards, the following are the core cards that should be prioritized:

Jade Chamber: Provide Elemental Dice matching your active character. More Pyro/Hydro Dices for you!

Wangshu Inn: Heal your standby character for 2 rounds. After all, although Bennett can heal, he still needs to charge his Energy first.

Liyue Harbor Wharf: Draw 2 cards. This increase the chance for you to get better cards. And if you don’t, well you can sacrifice those cards for Elemental Tuning.

Katheryne: Switching character will be Fast Action instead of Combat Action. Try to get this card on the first round and use it. Restarting the match just to get this card is also an option you know~

Liu Su: Give 1 Energy to the new active character if they don’t have any.

Iron Tongue Tian: Similar to Liu Su, he will provide Energy for a character that doesn’t have maximum Energy. But since he will only give it after the round ends, you might find it hard to utilize (because who knows maybe your character suddenly died by Maguu Kenki’s summons).

Elemental Resonance Fervent Flames: Any Pyro-related reactions on the round will deal more damage! Best card for this fight, especially for Diluc when using his Skill or Burst.

Elemental Resonance Woven Flames: Create 1 Pyro Dice.

The Bestest Travel Companion: Convert Elemental Dice to Omni Element. Suitable for any time when the Dices you get sucks.

Strategize: Draw 2 Cards just like Liyue Harbor Wharf, giving you more chances to get good and suitable cards for the round.

Adeptus’ Temptation: This card is great (especially for Diluc) to dish out massive Elemental Burst damage to the target.

Lotus Flower Crisp: Protect your active character from dying by making them takes less damage.
Video Gameplay & Strategy
Challenge Objectives:
1. Achieve victory
2. Achieve victory within 5 Rounds
3. Win with less than 2 characters defeated
The video I provided above won the challenge within 5 exact rounds with only one character unalive, completing all the objectives. By the way, the video is fast forwarded 2x because it will be unnecessarily long to watch if I just leave it be hehe.

At the start of the first round, choose Mona as the active character and use her Elemental Skill. This will guarantee you to apply Hydro to the left Kairagi and Maguu Kenki. How do I know it’s guaranteed? Because the opponent will start with left Kairagi > Maguu Kenki. The first hit from Mona will apply Hydro on Kairagi, while her Reflection will inflict Hydro at the end of the round. That’s why I said her Skill is important earlier.

Then, try to change to Diluc before the round end so you can use his Elemental Skill right off the bat in the second round. After this move, you’re on your own because the Dices and Cards you will get are random and will not 100% follow my video walkthrough. Switch between characters to keep them alive, use suitable cards when you feel it’s the best time to activate, and trigger elemental reactions to deal more damage.

One last thing to note, read their intent. Unless any of the opponents died, Maguu Kenki and Kairagi have the exact same movement set every time you challenge it. Try to defeat the Kairagi before their Burst deal 6 Physical DMG to your active character (That’s how I know the opponent will choose Kairagi > Maguu Kenki).
20 games for the fucking 3 objectives!
You’ve work hard, congrats for getting maguu kenki card 😅👏
