Yelan Build Guide

An in-depth analysis of Yelan and her best builds. Includes artifacts, weapons and team recommendations.

A mysterious person who claims to work for the Ministry of Civil Affairs, but is a “non-entity” on the Ministry of Civil Affairs’ list.

Name: Yelan
Rarity: ★★★★★
Vision: Hydro
Weapon: Bow

Birthday: 20th April
Region: Liyue
Affiliation: Yanshang Teahouse

Normal Attack: Performs up to 4 consecutive shots with a bow.

Statistics:

Charged Attack: Performs a more precise Aimed Shot with increased DMG. While aiming, flowing water will accumulate on the arrowhead. A fully charged torrential arrow will deal Hydro DMG.

Statistics:

Plunging Attack: Fires off a shower of arrows in mid-air before falling and striking the ground, dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Statistics:

Fires off a Lifeline that allows her to move rapidly, entangling and marking opponents along its path. When this rapid movement ends, the Lifeline will explode, dealing Hydro DMG to the marked opponents based on Yelan’s Max HP.

Tap
Moves a certain distance forward swiftly.

Hold
Engages in continuous, swift movement, during which Yelan’s resistance to interruption is increased. During this time, Yelan can control this rapid movement and end it by using this Skill again.

Additionally, each opponent marked by the Lifeline when it explodes grants Yelan a 34% chance to reset her Breakthrough state.

Statistics:

Deals AoE Hydro DMG and creates an “Exquisite Throw,” which aids her in battle.

Exquisite Throw

Follows the character around and will initiate a coordinated attack under the following circumstances, dealing Hydro DMG based on Yelan’s Max HP:

  • Can occur once every second when your active character uses a Normal Attack.
  • Will occur each time Yelan’s Lifeline explodes and hits opponents.

Statistics:

Suggested Talent Levels

This is by no means an exact guide on what is best – this is just my personal suggestion.

When the party has 1/2/3/4 Elemental Types, Yelan’s Max HP is increased by 6%/12%/18%/30%.

So long as an Exquisite Throw is in play, your own active character deals 1% more DMG. This increases by a further 3.5% DMG every second. The maximum increase to DMG dealt is 50%. The pre-existing effect will be dispelled if Depth-Clarion Dice is recast during its duration.

Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Liyue Expedition for 20 hours.

Umbrabilis Orchis

C2 < C3

Having an additional charge for Yelan’s Elemental Skill allows her to regenerate her Energy and deal more DMG. This isn’t a massive boost in her abilities but can still be a useful addition to her kit.

C2 is Yelan’s most important constellation that is definitely worth pulling for. It massively increases her DMG by dealing out additional Hydro attacks during her Elemental Burst. This also boosts her Hydro application abilities.

This increases the level to which Yelan’s Elemental Burst can be increased.

C4 increases Yelan’s teammates’ Max HP. This can be useful depending on who her teammates are but often ends up being a useless addition. Kokomi, Hu Tao and Zhongli are three specific characters that can benefit from this constellation.

This increases the level to which Yelan’s Elemental Skill can be increased.

C6 moves Yelan towards the Main DPS role by introducing Breakthrough Barbs. Pulling for six 5-star constellations to make a Sub-DPS / Support character into a Main DPS is not really worth it seeing how many C0 Main DPS characters are already in the game.

The below statistics assume that the weapons are all at Level 90 Refinement 1 with all passives activated. Yelan is at Level 90 10/10/10. The artifacts are each at Level 20 with no sub-stats. The Sands is HP%, the Goblet is Hydro DMG Bonus, and the Circlet is CRIT Rate. Damage Values are all CRIT hits.

4-Piece Emblem of Severed Fate

4-Piece Noblesse Oblige

2-Piece Heart of Depth and 2-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith

2-Piece: Energy Recharge +20%.

4-Piece: Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge. A maximum of 75% bonus DMG can be obtained in this way.

The best artifact set for Yelan is Emblem of Severed Fate. By increasing her Energy Recharge as well as her Elemental Burst DMG it focuses on powering up all of her core DMG dealing areas. This set is her undisputed best in slot and is definitely the one you should aim for.

2-Piece: Elemental Burst DMG +20%.

4-Piece: Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members’ ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

Noblesse Oblige is an alternate option but is nowhere near as good as Emblem of Severed Fate. This set allows Yelan to buff her teammates. While it can be useful, this is not Yelan’s primary function.

2-Piece Tenacity of the Millelith: HP increased by 20%.

2-Piece Heart of Depth: Hydro DMG Bonus +15%.

If farming for a full 4-piece set is too difficult for you, you can settle on a 2-piece combination of Tenacity of the Millelith and Heart of Depth. Yelan’s DMG scales off her HP and she is a Hydro character, therefore these 2-piece bonuses help increase her overall DMG.

Yelan’s signature weapon is Aqua Simulacra which was specifically designed for her. This is definitely a bow worth pulling for as it drastically increases Yelan’s DMG compared to all other options. It is also an incredibly versatile weapon that can be used by many other characters. The high CRIT DMG, increase in HP, and the passive ability make it the perfect weapon for Yelan.

Thundering Pulse’s CRIT DMG and ATK boost allows Yelan to consistently output high DMG. Yelan cannot take advantage of the passive abilities of this weapon as she does not rely on her Normal Attack DMG, however even without this it is still powerful on her. You should by no means pull for this weapon specifically for Yelan, but if you have it she will love it.

Favonius Warbow is the best F2P option. Its Energy Recharge means you do not have to focus on this stat as much within Yelan’s artifacts. Further refining this bow makes it even more powerful.

Another F2P option is the 3-star Recurve Bow. Its HP sub-stat is what Yelan scales off of which increases her overall DMG dealing abilities.

Main DPS: Hu Tao (C0+) → DMG amplified via Vaporization reaction.

Sub DPS: Yelan (C0+) → Provides continuous off-field Hydro application.

Support: Kazuha (C0+) → Groups enemies together and provides DMG buff to teammates.

Healer: Kokomi (C0+) → Heals teammates and applies Hydro to opponents.

Main DPS: Raiden Shogun (C0+) → Provides Electro attachment to opponents and boosts Energy Recharge.

Sub DPS: Xiangling (C0+) → Elemental Burst attaches Pyro to opponents and deals a large amount of DMG.

Healer: Bennett (C0+) → Elemental Burst provides ATK buff and heals teammates.

So, what are the pros and cons of Yelan?

Pros:

  • Incredibly strong Sub-DPS
  • Good off-field Hydro application
  • Easy to build
  • Lots of possible team compositions

Cons:

  • Requires high Energy recharge
  • Weak Normal Attacks

The final decision as to whether you get her is up to you! Good Luck Travellers~
